Extra-Curricular Activities

Learning Opportunities Beyond-the-Classroom

Many of our students have hobbies and interests that are best catered for outside of the everyday classroom curriculum. Our staff are passionate about providing the opportunities for pupils to practise, enhance or experience for the first time a range of extra-curricular learning experiences.

Students have the opportunity of joining a variety of extra-curricular groups that take place during lunchtimes. Many of these groups will be entered into across-school competitions, where the students have the chance to demonstate their skills while representing Everglade. A few of the lunchtime activities on offer are as follows:

Kapa Haka is about exploring Māori culture and the language. Totara and Pohutukawa students can join our ropu to learn waiata and haka, as well as perform these at school events.

Talofa lava and Malo e lelei,

Everglade School's Pasifika group is run by Mrs Turu and Mrs Groube once a week. We practise a variety of Pacific cultural dances which change yearly. The Pasifika group is offered to Years 3-6 students. We do have a mix of year groups who attend and have great senior students who often lead the dances and support the younger students in the group. Your child does not have to be of Pacific nationality to join. We welcome all cultures and nationalities.

The Trapline Group monitors 4 pest traps which are set in our adopted bush Aronia Reserve. We check the traps and reset them in Term 1 and 4.

Mrs Luck explains, "In Zenki Craft Club we make soft toys out of felt. A small group of year 5 and 6s spend as much time as they need completing their soft toys."

Over the course of the year, Year 5-6 pupils have the opportunity to learn about various sports and develop new skills. Each sporting activity runs for about 6-8 weeks and results in teams participating in a tournament with other schools in the Manurewa Zone.

Bollywood Dance is the name given to the dance-form used in Indian (Hindi) films.  Our group consists of Years 3-6 children who are passionate about dancing to famous Bollywood songs. We are really excited to share our energetic performances at events such as the Twilight Festival.
