The Everglade Learning Approach

The essence of our local curriculum...

...ensuring every student experiences opportunities to learn and progress through a curriculum that values their identity, language and culture, their strengths and their aspirations and those of their whanau.

How this looks at Everglade School

The Everglade School Curriculum Framework is intended to allow for the most suitable means of applying the Curriculum requirements to the learning time available.

The Everglade Curriculum/Learning Framework shows Learning Domains as follows:

Core Learning

English (Reading & Writing), and Mathematics

Core Learning takes place throughout the year. Each of the Learning Areas is given significant allocation of time on a week-by-week basis

Physical Learning

Physical Education

Physical Learning is also allocated time on a week-by-week basis. This occurs through set lessons at scheduled times within the week.

Expressive Learning

The Arts

Expressive Learning is planned for how the four disciplines are delivered throughout the year.

Experiential Learning

Health, Science, Social Sciences (including the Aotearoa NZ Histories), Technology, Te Reo Maori.

Experiential Learning takes place in a more integrated manner. Rather than allocating time to each Learning Area on a weekly basis, teachers plan in ways that focus on development of skills and dispositions, incorporating one or more of the Learning Areas as the vehicles to achieve the Progress Outcomes and Capabilities. This approach takes a ‘wider’ view of the Learning Areas and requires a ‘big picture’ of learning to be set out each year.

School Values

Our teachers weave the eight school values throughout each curriculum area. Embedding our core values into the daily life of our school is essential for fostering a positive and nurturing learning environment.
